Your view from your future office!
The Dosztányi-group at the Department of Biochemistry, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE), Budapest, Hungary, is seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research on the rapidly developing field of intrinsically disordered proteins (IDPs). The position begins 1st of November 2024, or soon thereafter.
Why Join Us?
Our Research Focus:
- Understanding the key principles linking IDP sequences to their structures, functions, and roles in diseases.
- Developing innovative computational tools to advance IDP research.
- Exploring specific systems of IDP-mediated interactions and their molecular and evolutionary properties in normal and disease contexts.
Project Highlights:
- Engage in cutting-edge research within the Horizon Europe-funded Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) Doctoral Network, IDPro.
- Collaborate with an exceptional network of academic and industrial partners across seven countries.
- Projects include investigating how IDPs interact, the impact of disease-related mutations, and designing ligands for potential drug development.
Good salary: 2166 EUR per month + 600 EUR mobility allowance (before tax). This is 1.5 time more than the average salary in Hungary.
Your Role:
- Conduct research in protein bioinformatics, biomolecular simulation, analyzing biological data, machine learning.
- Identify novel interaction sites within IDPs, investigate the role of context and regulatory mechanisms and explore biomedical relevance of these interactions.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in biology (with courses taken on biochemistry, structural biology, bioinformatics) or a related field. Degree obtained by 31th of October, 2024.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Strong analytical capacity, accuracy, flexibility and collaborative skills
Desirable Skills:
- Experience in bioinformatics, programming, and/or machine learning.
- Familiarity with intrinsically disordered proteins.
Eligibility:
- Compliant with MSCA mobility rules: Applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity in Hungary for more than 12 months in the past 36 months.
- Not yet obtained a Phd degree
